Aid: Houthis Give While Israel Blocks

Israel's illegal blockade of the Gaza strip has entered its third week, continuing to deny entry of all food, fuel, medicine, and medical supplies into the region. In case it needs spelling out, Palestinians, amid their decimated city, have been without food, fuel, medicine, and medical supplies for three weeks. All the while, IDF soldiers continue to murder and maim Palestinian civilians and journalists in flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement and international law.

Enter the Houthis, the sole armed group outside of Palestine that’s come to its defense. In November 2023, attempting to pressure Israel to end its genocide in Gaza, the Yemeni rebels seized the Galaxy Leader, an Israeli-linked cargo ship located in the Red Sea corridor, effectively forcing some of the largest shipping companies in the world to reroute their vessels around the tip of Africa, losing them nine days and 15 percent in costs.

Earlier this month, the Houthis threatened to resume their naval operations against Israel unless Israel fully lifted its blockade of the Gaza Strip, demanding as well that it recommence its Phase 2 ceasefire negotiations with Hamas, which calls for a permanent end to the war. (No surprise there why Israel halted talks.)

Eight days into the Houthis’ declaration, despite them having made no attacks or attempts of attack on any ships, on March 15, the US launched airstrikes across Yemen, including its capital, Sanaa, killing 32 Yemenis—mostly women and children—and wounding 101. Following the deadly assault, in a message aimed at the Houthis, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, “Your time is up, and your attacks must stop, starting today. If they don’t, hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before.”

If you find the Houthis too violent or subversive, I wonder, what do you make of Israel's genocide? What do you make of the 48,572 Palestinian men, women, and children, press, doctors, and scholars murdered by Israeli soldiers and US-made bombs? Who are you to decide in what manner they can and can’t resist—how they should and shouldn’t fight for their survival, for their homeland?

I say leave the Houthis the fuck alone—let them come to Palestine’s aid.

I’ll end with a Bright Eyes song I can’t seem to get out of my head these days, “When the President Talks to God”, which I am dedicating to the wishful ruin of every megalomaniac leader complicit in perpetuating and downplaying ethnic cleansing—may they burn in hell.

…When the President talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the President talks to God

When the President talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?

That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the Presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the President talks to God?

I doubt it

I doubt it
